Job Description

A private progressive school in Queens, NY, is looking for a dynamic and passionate educational leader to join the administration team as Principal. This position provides direction & oversight, leadership, and contributes to the building of systems and supports that increase each student’s growth & development. The school strives to provide an extraordinary joyful and wonder based educational experience for children, mindfully partnering with parents to facilitate the social, physical, intellectual, creative, emotional, and spiritual development of every child and family. Through innovative pedagogical programs and interdisciplinary project based learning (PBL), students are provided the opportunity to develop self-confidence and self-awareness, enhance their academic skills and creative capabilities, and build their individual Jewish identity in a caring environment preparing each child for success in the 21st-century.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Head of School to promote the school’s vision for educational excellence and uphold the school’s mission, culture, and goals.
• Evaluate curriculum models and programs implementing pedagogical best practices. Oversee and support the implementation of a rich and engaging Interdisciplinary Project Based Learning model.
• Support staff’s development of innovative instructional skills through modeling, peer coaching, and professional development training.
• In addition to overseeing the hiring process (recruitment, interviews, training) of instructional and non-instructional staff, manage day-to-day employee relations tasks. Support teacher development & effectiveness through informal and formal classroom observations. Create a collaborative team environment that encourages self-reflection and a commitment to professional development and being lifelong learners.
• Oversee general day-to-day operational functions of the school. Including, but not limited to coordinate academic class scheduling & logistics of staff breaks & absences, implement school safety procedures & protocols (i.e. parent handbook, monthly fire drills), write parent communications (emails, weekly newsletter), maintain student records & attendance, etc.

Qualifications:

• Qualified candidates will exhibit a comprehensive knowledge/understanding pedagogical best practices, engaging curriculum programs/models, interdisciplinary project based learning (PBL), and foster rich social emotional learning classroom environments. S/he will have demonstrated experience in data driven processes and interventions. Candidates will be growth-oriented and interested in evolving as a school leader & lifelong learner. Additionally, s/he will have:
• Advanced Degree in Education (preferred)
• 2-5 years classroom teacher experience (preferred)
• Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills fostering a positive culture and relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, & Social Media Platforms
• Be creative, thoughtful, self-reflective, and a problem solver.
