Job Description
A funding company is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Underwriting to lead underwriting operations in the Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) space. This is a senior leadership role that requires a deep understanding of risk management, deal flow, and compliance, as well as the ability to manage a high-performing team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will work closely with executive leadership to refine underwriting protocols, guide funding decisions, and scale operational workflows. This role demands someone with a strong leadership presence, operational expertise, and the ability to enforce compliance standards while driving performance. You’ll serve as the cornerstone of the company’s credit decisioning process, with direct oversight of all underwriting, particularly C & D paper and higher-quality submissions. A strong grasp of underwriting technology, system workflows, and advanced data tools is critical.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all underwriting operations, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to risk protocols
- Analyze complex credit packages and make or escalate final funding decisions, but not limited to funding calls
- Mentor and manage internal team, underwriters, fostering a culture of accountability and growth
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, funding, and operations to streamline processes
- Partner with ISO managers and external brokers to improve deal intake and communication
- Own underwriting systems and CRM optimization efforts, working closely with IT and platform vendors
- Ensure all underwriting practices are fully compliant with internal guidelines and regulatory standards
- Generate detailed performance reports, develop KPIs, and help identify risk trends across the portfolio

Qualifications:
- 5–8+ years of MCA underwriting experience, with direct exposure to C & D paper and high-volume deal flow
- Proven success in leading and scaling underwriting teams, including performance management and operational design
- Deep understanding of underwriting metrics, credit assessment, fraud detection, and industry risk profiles
- Strong experience working directly with ISOs, brokers, and internal sales/funding teams
- Operational acumen with a demonstrated ability to build and refine underwriting workflows and systems
- Proficient with technology, including advanced Excel skills and experienced in using CRMs such as Salesforce, MCA platforms, and third-party data and analytics tools.
