Job Description
A fast-growing boutique law firm specializing in commercial litigation, judgment enforcement, and creditor representation is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its team. This is not a typical associate role — it is a high-impact position with a clear path to leadership, where you will be trained to eventually run the litigation department and manage a team. The firm operates with strong systems and heavy automation, allowing attorneys to focus on strategy, advocacy, and execution — not busywork. You will work directly with experienced leadership and gain hands-on exposure to complex, high-volume litigation, including Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) matters.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a docket of commercial and civil litigation matters from contested stage through resolution
- Handle motion practice, including drafting and arguing motions, pleadings, and briefs in state and federal courts
- Appear in court, arbitrations, mediations, and hearings
- Oversee post-judgment enforcement actions (garnishments, levies, turnovers, etc.)
- Work extensively on MCA-related litigation and general commercial disputes
- Take ownership of cases after responsive pleadings (answer/counterclaim stage)
- Manage discovery, affidavits, and NYSCEF filings
- Assist in developing litigation strategy and workflow optimization
- Support leadership in running the litigation function and scaling the department
- Coordinate and supervise outside counsel where appropriate
- Advise internal stakeholders on litigation risk, compliance, and strategy
- Stay current on legal developments in commercial litigation, collections, and creditor’s rights
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active New York Bar admission
- 3+ years of litigation experience (commercial litigation, collections, creditor’s rights, or similar)
- Strong writing, motion practice, and courtroom advocacy skills
- Experience managing multiple cases in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with NYSCEF and legal research platforms
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small, high-performing team
- Experience with Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) or commercial finance litigation preferred
- Background in high-volume litigation environments preferred
- Additional bar admissions (e.g., CA, FL, VA) a plus
